The Yap State Legislature seeks a motivated legal professional to serve as Assistant Legal Counsel, supporting the Legal Counsel Office in providing comprehensive legal services to legislators and ensuring the integrity of the legislative process.
The Assistant Legal Counsel will assist with drafting bills, resolutions, and amendments, conduct legal research on legislative matters and constitutional issues, review proposed legislation for legal compliance and potential conflicts, and help prepare legal opinions and memoranda for legislators. This role includes supporting committee work with legal analysis, assisting in the review of existing statutes, and helping ensure all legislative documents meet proper legal standards and formatting requirements.
Candidates must hold a law degree from an accredited institution and be licensed to practice law or eligible for admission to the FSM Bar. Recent law graduates with strong academic credentials are encouraged to apply. Excellent legal research and writing skills are essential, along with attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively. Knowledge of constitutional law, legislative processes, or Pacific Island legal systems is advantageous but not required. The successful candidate must demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and a commitment to non-partisan public service.
